Our
Story at Rocking 4R Boers!
Rocking 4R Boer Goats
is owned by Mike & Maureen Reis and is located in Dixon,
California. We got started in the goat business in
November 2002 when we purchased 20 bred percentage does
from Jim and Stephanie Barrie in Lincoln, California.
The does were bred to L. H. Drambuie and kidded in
January 2003. We had gone to a couple of goat shows
prior and thought this would be fun and decided to start
showing our goats.
Our first show was in April of 2003 at the Valley
Classic Boer Goat show in Stockton, Ca. We only took
four little does, 1 Fullbood and 3 percentages. It has
taken off from there. We now attend around 10 shows a
year and take 10 – 20 head to each show.
Maureen and I have built our herd to over 100 females;
we select only does that have a very strong foundation
and structural correctness. The does have done very well
for us. When we found out that L.H. Drambuie was for
sale, we jumped at the opportunity to purchase him in
April 2004. We were excited and fortunate to buy him. We
were impressed with the offspring we had gotten out of
him. Drambuie was a bonus to our breeding program and he
quickly became one of our main herd sires. Drambuie has
earned his ennoblement in 2006 and is one of the few
California bred bucks to earn this honor.
Our love for the Boer goats has become a part of life
for us. We enjoy working together on this venture. We
are focusing on breeding both percentage and fullblood
does as well as market wethers. Our wethers have done
well throughout California in the CJLA jackpots as well
as county fairs. Our breeding does have done very well
in California as well as out of state. We are very proud
of the goats produced at the Rocking 4R Boer Goat ranch.
We are hoping to bring our breeding program to the next
level in 2007.
We have met a lot of great people being involved in the
Boer goat industry. We have made new friends in and out
of state! We look forward to going to shows to see the
friends that we only see once a year at these shows.
Maureen and I would like to thank all of our fellow Boer
goat breeders for all that they have done for us!
